Rosat X-ray Observations of Central Galactic Starbursts
نویسنده
چکیده
We present spatial and spectral results of ROSAT observations of two galaxies: NGC 4569 and NGC 4303. Both objects are members of the Virgo Cluster and have nearby smaller companions with which they have probably gone through an encounter. Both soft X-ray spectra (0.1–2.4 keV) can be fitted with a two-component model consisting of a power-law component from a non-thermal emission of a compact active nucleus and a Raymond-Smith model for a hot thin thermal plasma originating from starbursts. The X-ray luminosities are in the range of 10 erg s. The central source of NGC 4569 is very compact and can not be resolved with the ROSAT HRI detector, while there is extended soft X-ray emission in the galactic disk as well as above it. NGC 4303 is dominated by the active nucleus in the X-ray. But several additional disk sources associated with H II regions can be observed.

SOFT X-RAY PROPERTIES OF ULIRGs BASED ON A LARGE AND COMPLETE SAMPLE
We report on the results of the cross-correlation of a sample of 903 Ultraluminous IRAS galaxies (ULIRGs) with the ROSAT-All Sky Survey Bright Source Catalogue and the ROSAT archived pointing observations. The sample of ULIRGs has been compiled from the PSCz redshift survey. In total, 35 ULIRGs are securely detected by the ROSAT All-Sky Survey and pointing observations, five of which are blazar...
متن کاملASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS ROSAT X-ray observations of the interacting pair of galaxies NGC 4410: evidence for a central starburst
We present X-ray observations of the interacting pair of galaxies NGC 4410a/b with the ROSAT HRI and PSPC. The ROSAT HRI images reveal a point-like source corresponding to NGC 4410a and an X-ray halo, extending 10 from the nucleus toward the southeast. The halo emission accounts for ∼1/3 (LX = 1.3×10 erg s in the 0.1 2.4 keV ROSAT band) of the total X-ray emission detected from NGC 4410a. The s...
متن کاملXMM-Newton observations of two hyperluminous IRAS galaxies: Compton-thick quasars with obscuring starbursts
We present XMM-Newton observations of two hyperluminous IRAS galaxies (LBol > 10h 50 L⊙), neither of which was previously detected by ROSAT. Published models of the infrared spectral energy distributions imply that a starburst and obscured quasar contribute equally to the power of each source. IRAS F12514+1027 (z = 0.30) is detected in 18.6 ks with 130 EPIC-pn counts over 0.2-12 keV. The soft X...
متن کاملROSAT HRI observations of radio-loud AGN
We present the results of three ROSAT HRI observations of AGN expected to reside in clusters of galaxies. Although the exposures were truncated by the premature end of the ROSAT mission, valuable information could be achieved which greatly improved upon the previous PSPC results. For RGB 1745+398 we could separate the cluster emission from that of the BL Lac and could confirm the cluster parame...
